Dear Fellow Photographers:
In 2004, Act 132 (the yearbook lock out law) was passed. It gives you the security of having your photographs accepted by any school in Wisconsin. One problem continues to exist: the ability of many photographers to get the names and addresses of the parents of juniors/seniors.
Good news! The Board of Directors of SEWPPA has established a committee to address this issue. This committee has developed a very comprehensive plan to accomplish this goal. Your help is an essential part of the success of this program. The SEWPPA Board has appointed past-president Gilbert Frenn as chairman.
The plan consists of two part: collecting petitions from your clients, and presenting these petitions to the local school boards who are not in compliance. Our Wisconsin Representatives, Senators and Governor passed Act 132 because of their support for Wisconsin Businesses. We will forward copies of the petitions to them, and Department of Public Instruction (DPI), to show them the public wants the opportunity to receive this information.
We need to collect as many petitions as possible over the next few months from each SEWPPA member studio and other Wisconsin studios that choose to participate. Please take time today to download:
Print and place the placard on your front counter/sales desk. Please explain this to your employees. Ask everyone over 18, who visit your studio to sign a petition. This includes every adult that comes into your studio (not just senior parents). This is a freedom of choice issue that affects everyone. Every other week, forward your signed petition letters to...
The signed petitions will be sent to the proper school boards, administrators, Wisconsin Senators, Representatives and DPI. No local schools will know the petitions are coming from your studio. Your relationship with your schools will be protected.
This is the same technique that was used to get Act 132 passed. We need everyone's participation. Even if you don't photograph seniors, please help your fellow photographers who do. You never know when you might need their help. Thank you for participating. If you have any questions, contact Gilbert Frenn at gilbert@frennphotography.com.
Sincerely,
John WalcottP.S. Please send a list of School Districts that are not responding favorably to your request for the names and mailing addresses of the parents of the junior/senior classes to Gil Frenn.
